Turkey Trot

Taking a rest after the race.

1st place and 2nd place.
I was so proud of these two. They are both in our class and won 1st and second place out of all the 1st graders! Way to go!

Even the turkey ran the race.

Starting out. On your mark, get set, GO!

All the 1st grade lined up and waiting for the signal to GO!

Our principal is such a great sport! I loved her cute costume!

Listening to the instructions for the Turkey Trot.

Our school held it's first annual TURKEY TROT!! Our Awesome principal even dressed as a turkey! The kids loved it! Each grade raced for a mile. The top 3 winners from each grade level received a prize. 1st: a turkey, 2nd: a pie, 3rd: a movie rental pass. Each child that participated received a voucher for a free doughnut.
A good time was had by all.

Stone Soup

I read the book "Stone Soup"" to our class and then we made our own Vegetable soup. Each child in our class was supposed to bring a vegetable to put in our soup. Almost everyone in our class brought one. The funny thing is, almost everyone brought carrots! It was so funny! We had 12 students in our class bring cut- up carrots to add to our soup. Thanks to everyone for sharing and helping us to have a delicious soup. We also learned some new poems about soup to practice our reading fluency. Here is one of the poems we have been practicing.

Soup, soup soup in a pot. Soup, soup the soup is hot! Soup, soup do you want a lot?

Thanksgiving math

I like to integrate subjects whenever I can. We did a fun sorting and graphing activity with runts. The runts are different fruit that may have been placed in a "horn of plenty" by pilgrims. Each child got a cup full of candy and had to sort it and then graph how many they had of each fruit. When they were finished they got to eat their candy.

Update... practicing math... Red Ribbon Week

Using math manipulatives to practice adding and subtracting.
