November Book Orders

Dear Student and Parents,

It is time for November book orders. Books are a great Christmas gift. If you would like to order books for your child for Christmas, please write that on their order and I will call and let you know when the books arrive so you can pick them up.

Book pick for SeeSaw: Too Many Toys by: David Shannon

This is a great story by popular author and illustrator David Shannon. I have read this book aloud to our class and they enjoy it.

Book Pick for Firefly: The Three Snow Bears by: Jan Brett This is a version of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” using an Eskimo girl as the main character and polar bears. It is a book we will read in our class this winter.

Book Pick for Winter Gift Books: This order is full of books and book series that would make great holiday gifts. I’ll let you decide which one is your favorite!

1st grade writing sample

I LOVE to read the stories that my students write! I love the way they spell things and the many things they come up with in their writing. It's just so darn cute!

This isn't a very good picture, but this is what this student wrote "Win you tak hot stuf awt of t ovin you wear mitins win you cross the road you look booth ways never pok peopol with sizrs or forks" -GREAT safety tips don't you think?

Don't you just love it! My favorite is the "never poke people with sizzors of forks!" I also love the invented spelling that I see my student using in their writing.

Pumpkin Math and Science

This week we did a fun activity with pumpkins. Each student got to have their own pumpkin to take home after our activity. We learned how to estimate and to measure.

Health and Safety

We learned about eating healthy foods.

We learned about keeping healthy by saying NO! to drugs. We made posters to hang in the hallway.

Ms. L taught us about the food pyramid.

Ms. Larsen taught a unit on health and safety. It was fun to have two parents come in and share their expertise with us. We had a mom come in who is a nurse and talk to us about being safe and how to wash our hands and keep healthy during flu season. We had a dad come in who is a dentist and he shared with our class how to brush and take care of our teeth. Our class learned about working out and eating healthy too.
